Decorating your home can be an exciting project. It is your opportunity to create a space that is entirely yours. You will be amazed at what a little bit of painting and decorating can do for the overall feel of your home.

So where do you start? You need to first identify what the scope of your decorating will be. Do you want to redecorate only the front rooms or are you planning on giving your entire house a complete overhaul? Now you need to make a list of all the things you would like to do with the space such as repainting, adding furnishings and other décor items. Next, make a comprehensive list of all the decorating materials you need for each room. This list will help you stick to your budget and you should be able to buy everything in one go rather than buying bits and pieces as you go, which ends up costing a lot more than necessary. Remember to keep aside a decent amount of time to complete the job, especially if you are planning on doing it yourself.  There is nothing worse than a half decorated room that you can never find the time to complete!

If painting and decorating is not your thing, there are plenty of professionals who you can hire to do the job for you. In fact, you may need various skilled decorators and painters to complete different aspects of the job. Your list could include a master painter for all your painting needs, an interior decorator for all the furnishings and final touches and a carpenter for any fittings or flooring. Often the best way of finding the most professional and reliable decorating contractors is through word of mouth or the recommendations of friends. Just remember that this is your home that you are having decorated, make sure that you are involved in the process every step of the way.
