Your central heating system is responsible for keeping you warm even on the coldest days but how many of us know how their system works and what to do if something goes wrong?

So what are the different components of your heating system? Most systems will have a boiler through which hot water is generated. This is either used throughout the whole system or just for the supply of hot water. But in most cases, a combi boiler will be used. This type of boiler supplies hot water as well as heat for your home. Now that you know where the heat is coming from, the next step in central heating your home is to have a way for the warmth to be distributed throughout the house. That is why you have radiators. The heat that is generated by your boiler is sent throughout your central heating pipes to radiators in each room, which in turn heat up each of these rooms. If one of your radiators isn’t working there could be a fault with the entire system and it is best to check it out. Lastly, you are able to adjust how much you heat your home through the thermostat, which gives you easy control over the entire system.

While it may be easy to regulate the temperature in your home, central heating faults should be checked by a professional central heating expert or a qualified plumber. A fault could originate anywhere in the system, from the boiler to one or more of the radiators,  and unless you are familiar with the intricate workings of your home central heating, a call to your plumber will save you plenty of time and worry.
